In spite of the fact that Tharanga played an exceptional innings for team and country, Bangladesh can thank themselves that they have done extremely well. Having said that, the host team will now have to wrap up the tail. Enough is enough. And then, they can either fold up like they did in Chittagong or take a leaf from Tharanga's book and strive to make a game out of it. In fact, they should take it as a mission.
The Indians meanwhile had the weather to contend with. Munaf Patel, the debutant fast bowler did himself no disservice on a pitch that gave no help to any kind of bowling be it spin or pace (including seam and swing). For his troubles he got the prized wicket of Pietersen, a caught and bowled scalp too.
The day's play was also curtailed because of shower and bad light. Only 50.3 overs were possible. At stumps England closed shop at 163 for 4 on a day that saw some aggression from Pietersen. England's batsmen it must be said lost their wickets due to cavalier batting more than great Indian bowling.
Pathan was the destroyer prising out the two openers in quick succession. 38 for 2 it was then. But Bell and Pietersen thwarted further success by the hosts.
Piyush Chawla was the other debutant in the Indian side who also looked impressive though he could get in only five overs.
