Theft of deep-tubewells' transformers rampant
Our Correspondent
3/15/2006

RANGPUR, Mar 14: Theft of transformers of deep-tubewells has increased alarmingly in Thakurgaon district hampering irrigation in the paddy fields greatly, according to sources.
About 200 transformers of deep-tubewells out of 550 in the district have already been stolen. As a result, irrigation in one thousand acres of land has been traumatised.
A large number of farmers have alleged that pilfering of transformers is on rise as law-enforcers are yet to take necessary steps in this connection and arrest the culprits.
They have also expressed their deep concern over Boro farming as it is being seriously hampered due to theft of transformers which made the deep-tubewells out of order.
Local people have urged the law-enforcers to recover stolen transformers and arrest the criminals immediately for the sake of Boro output.
