Khulna city BNP faction to stage agitation against ostracising of whip Ashraf Hossain and expelling of Manju
Internal feud in Faridganj BNP
8/20/2006

CHANDPUR, Aug 19 (BDNEWS): A severe internal feud is going on inside Faridganj Upazila unit of BNP in Chandpur centring around the formation of the upazila committee and nomination of the party candidate for the coming election.
According to Faridganj Upazila BNP sources, Alamgir Haider Khan, lawmaker from Chandpur-6 constituency for the last four times as well as general secretary of Chandpur District BNP, did not face any problem to get nomination in the last elections. But he became sick after the election of 2001.
Many grassroots level workers complained that for a long time Alamgir Haider Khan has turned the upazila committee into a 'personal' committee.
Dulal Mia Patwari was working as the president of Faridganj Upazila BNP. He was a known loyalist of MP Alamgir Haider Khan. But the polarisation started when Dulal Mia declared himself as the candidate of BNP for the next parliament election.
Alamgir Haider then declared a new committee of upazila BNP. As a result, processions and counter processions were brought out and rallies and counter-rallies held in shows of strength for and against the incumbent MP for the last few days.
Some senior leaders of upazila BNP apprehend that this internal feud might turn into a bloody clash at any time.
Dulal Mia said he is still the president of the committee and will continue in the same position for two years. Besides, he has no time to think about the committee; he is now busy carrying out mass contact in favour of his candidature for parliament election. He also added that Alamgir Haider was carrying out actions against him out of envy.
UNB adds from Khulna: A faction of Khulna City BNP announced agitation programme for August 20-23 in protest against Friday's decision by its convening committee to ostracize Whip Ashraf Hossain MP and expel member Nazrul Islam Manju.
The protest plan was announced at a press conference at the local press club Saturday, as the simmering conflict between the two factions in the local chapter of the ruling party erupted into infighting.
As planned, the programme includes staging black-flag demonstrations and hoisting black flags atop houses of all BNP leaders and workers.
The protestors will hold a rally at Shaheed Hadis Park on August 23 to declare 'social boycott' of the convener of the Convening Committee, Ali Asgar Lobi MP, and city Mayor Shaikh Tayebur Rahmana and District BNP President Majedul Islam.
