8/4/2006

JOYPURHAT, Aug 3 (BSS): Notorious terrorist Masud Rana alias Ali Babu of Joypurhat was killed in an encounter with members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) near Debipur rail crossing under Sadar Upazila in the small hours of Thursday.
Acting on a tip off, RAB members of Joypurhat camp arrested Masud Rana (21), son of Moslem Uddin of Debipur Kazipara under Sadar Upazila from a hideout in village Palsha near Jamalganj in the district at about 4:30 am Wednesday.
During interrogation, Rana admitted his involvements in killings, terrorist activities and possessing illegal firearms.
RAB along with Rana went to Debipur area after midnight last night to arrest his other associates and recover illegal arms. As the associates of Rana opened indiscriminate fires on RAB members from the dark, RAB also returned the fire in self-defense. Rana was seriously injured in the encounter while he attempted to escape from the scene.
Rana was taken to Joypurhat District Modernised Hospital immediately where the attending doctor declared him dead.
RAB recovered one loaded pistol and five live bullets of SMG from the spot.
