Call to take steps to conserve bio-diversity at Tengratila

          Forum of Environmental Journalists of Bangladesh (FEJB) Friday expressed concern at the explosion at Tengratila gas field and asked authority concerned to take immediate measures to conserve biodiversity around Tengratila in Sunamganj area ravaged by the recent devastating fire at the gas field.
The call was made at the 21st annual general meeting of the FEJB held in its conference room in the city Friday morning.
The meeting also expressed deep shock at the deaths of about two lakh people in 12 countries, including Sri Lanka, the Maldives, India, Indonesia and Bangladesh, in recent deadly tsunami in the Indian Ocean.
FEJB Chairman Quamrul Islam Chowdhury presided over the meeting, reports BSS.
General Secretary Mofizur Rahman and Treasurer Hasan Hafiz presented individual report on the activities and programmes conducted in the year 2004.
FEJB members Elahi Newaz Khan, Syed Akhtar Yusuf, Mohammad Quamruzzaman, Badiul Alam, Sheikh Enamul Haque, Chandan Sarkar, Sarwar Zahan, Mizanul Karim, Rosy Ferdous, Shamima Chowdhury, Shafiq Chowdhury, Amirul Islam Kagozi, Shahidul Islam Chowdhury, Rafiqul Islam Ratan, Monzurul Haq Monju and Mahmud Hafiz participated in the discussion on the reports of the general secretary and the treasurer.
The meeting decided to further intensify investigative and on-the-spot reports and features, initiate research on environmental degradation and increase programmes of the organisation to conserve deteriorating environment at home and abroad.
