Remain alert against history distortion: Hasina
10/19/2005

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina Tuesday condemned the alliance government accusing it of distorting the country's history that she said was an impediment to building up the next generation as ideal citizens, report agencies.
Terming the prevailing situation in the country 'frustrating', Hasina urged the guardians and teachers to remain alert so that anti-liberation forces cannot confuse their kids with distorted information about the liberation war.
"Unfortunately, textbooks are now written with distorted information as the anti-liberation forces are out to misguide our kids. So the teachers and guardians have a role to play to save the posterity," Hasina said.
The Leader of the Opposition was speaking at a discussion meeting and prize-giving ceremony, marking the 41st birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell at the city's Osmani Auditorium, organised by Sheikh Russell Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad.
Describing the present BNP-Jamaat alliance government as "uneducated and greedy", she said the nation cannot expect anything better from such a communal and despotic regime.
Referring to the price hike of essentials, frequent bomb attacks and unbridled corruption, Hasina said the government has pushed the country into an anarchic situation.
"Although it's true that we're now passing through a bad time, the new sun will rise with its gaiety and glare when the evil forces will not have the escape route," Hasina told the function.
The Awami League chief alleged now security of the people, particularly the children, has been the main concern as the government has failed to run the country on all fronts.
"The lawlessness has reached such a stage in the country that children like Nowshin and Shihab have to die in the hands of criminals patronised by the government, while food crisis forces poor mothers to beg food from door to door for their hungry kids," Hasina said.
"As a matter of fact, this alliance regime has little headache for the children as it's busy in making its own fortune and conspiring to perpetuate its power," Hasina said.
