FE Report
11/16/2005

AKTEL, a cellular phone service provider in the country, launched Tuesday a new tariff plan titled 'AKTEL Exceed' for its pre-paid users to encourage higher call duration.
Speaking the a launching ceremony at a city hotel, Vijoy Watson, AKTEL chief operating officer, said the customers would be able to talk comparatively for a long time on their mobile phones at an economic rate with the newly launched package of the company.
"The 'AKTEL exceed' tariff rates will allow customers to talk at lower rate at Tk 1.90 per minute during peak hours (8am to 8pm) and even at lower rates during other time bands. The tariff will come into effect after a one-time connection fee of Tk 2.40 per call", Watson said.
Head of marketing department of the company Asif Iqbal said, AKTEL is providing this service with a view to helping the mobile phone users, giving a long talk time within their current expenditure capacity for cell phone.
"It will provide them significantly further access to communication at the same cost", he said.
He also said the company would run this programme on an experimental basis until February of the next year. If it proves success then it will be finalised, he added.
The newly launched programme is applicable for the pre-paid mobile standard (BTTB incoming and outgoing) and pre-paid mobile link (mobile to mobile) products only.
Current pre-paid users could migrate from the existing regular tariff plan to the 'exceed' tariff plan by typing 'exceed' and sending the SMS to 8MIG (8644), with Tk 100 as service charge.
Replying to queries of the newsmen, Iqbal said customers can choose the options whichever tariff plan suits them best as AKTEL is offering a flexible migration option.
Besides, AKTEL is expecting to increase its network frequency from 900 MHz to 18,000 MHz by December next for the benefit of its more than 2.2 million consumers.
General Manager (marketing) Jose Ravee, Assistant General Manager (corporate affairs) Javed Tariq, AGM marketing (advertising and promotions) Sania Mahmood, AGM Marketing (Sales and distribution) Mesbah Uddin and Senior manager (product development) Abraham Kaikobad were present at the launching ceremony.
