FE special
2/17/2005

The MARKS Institute of Medical Technology (MIMT), a sister concern of the MARKS ENT Clinic and General Hospital, was established with a mission to produce trained and skilled medical technologists in the country.
The MIMT is approved by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and accredited to the Bangladesh State Medical Faculty and the Pharmacy Council. Healthcare education centres of these types are limited in Bangladesh.
The institute started its journey with four time-worthy faculties. They are i) Diploma in Medical Technology (Laboratory), ii) Diploma in Medical Technology (Dentistry), iii) Diploma in Pharmacy and iv) Diploma in Medical Technology (Radiology & Imaging).
All students from the four faculties are allowed access to modern instruments and dark room facilities.
Considering the shortages and the demands for such technologists at home and abroad, the MARKS Hospital took the initiative to open the MIMT, which is situated on its own land and building at Section 14, Mirpur in the city.
The country's renowned ENT specialist Brigadier General Dr M Masudur Rahman Khan -- well-known as MR Khan -- established the institute. Dr MR Khan is the founder Principal of the institute. And Tarique Khan is the Executive Director of the MIMT.
Faculty staff of the institute include well-experienced professors and teachers in the respective field.
Among other advantages, the MIMT students enjoy laboratory and other facilities available at the hospital as well as the service and guidance provided by the faculty and the staff members of the institute.
The students benefit from a real world-standard experience in the institute.
So when the students of the MIMT complete their graduation, they will become proficient in theory and will also achieve practical experience.
This would definitely add value to their education and make them more marketable in today's competitive world.
The MIMT has spacious classrooms. The lectures are given using devices such as slides and overhead projectors. Hand outs will be provided with the lectures.
The institute also arranges study tours for the students. Teachers administer students with weekly, fortnightly and monthly examinations. Surprise quiz questions will also be given to the students to ensure their understanding of the course material.
The campus comprises of the computerised MARKS Diagnostic Centre, the Dental Unit and the facilities of the hospital.
The institute has also arrangements for common room facilities. Students have the option to participate in yearly cruise and picnic. They have accommodation facilities in the hostel.
The MIMT has necessary books and up-to-date medical journals in the library to enrich the students' knowledge.
The institute provides stipends to the poor and meritorious students. It assists the brilliant students for higher training abroad relating to their course.
The courses implemented in the institute are aimed at creating scope of self-employment in the health sector of the country. After completing the courses, the students are expected to get better jobs at home and abroad.
