Hemayetuddin new foreign secretary

          Hemayetuddin, currently High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, has been appointed Foreign Secretary. He replaces Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, who has been made Bangladesh Ambassador to Washington. "The government has decided to appoint Hemayetuddin … as Foreign Secretary," an official announcement said Thursday. An information cadre officer, Hemayetuddin joined Foreign Service in 1975. He obtained Honours and Masters degrees in Sociology from the University of Dhaka. Prior to his present assignment, he was the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand. He also served in Bangladesh missions in Beijing, Washington DC, Brussels and New Delhi in various capacities. — UNB
