UNDP extends aid for Aceh industries
2/26/2006

BANDA ACEH, Feb 25: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has allocated US$500,000 to empower small-scale industries in Nanggroe Aceh Darusalam (NAD) province. "The assistance is distributed in stages to handicraftsmen who have been affected by tsunami waves," UNDP s spokesman Amron Hadi said here yesterday when handing over sewing machines to 124 tsunami victims. He said UNDP has also given assistance to furniture makers who likewise have been affected by tsunami and do not have money to restart their work. More than 200,000 people were killed and went missing while hundreds of thousand others were rendered homeless following the gargantuan tsunami which struck the western part of Aceh on December 26, 2004.
