IGP rules out int'l link with JMB
TFI starts quizzing Bangla Bhai from Wednesday
3/11/2006

Tusk Force Intelligence (TFI) will start interrogating JMB second-in command and JMJB operational commander Siddikul Islam Bangla Bhai from Wednesday, report agencies.
Bangla Bhai, severely injured while he was captured from Rampur village in Muktagacha on March 6 after an encounter with RAB, is recovering at Intensive Care Unit in BDR hospital.
A top RAB official told newsmen that Bangla Bhai was shifted from ICU to general cabin Friday night as he is now out of danger.
If doctors permit, Bangla Bhai would be produced before a court in Mymensing within a couple of days and TFI would start quizzing him from Wednesday or Thursday, the official said.
Meanwhile, JMB kingpin Shaikh Abdur Rahman was quizzed by TFI for the eighth consecutive day Friday. He is being grilled under 10-day police remand.
RAB sources said, Shaikh Rahman would be shown arrest in another case of August 17 cross-country bombing for further interrogation after completion of the 10-day remand.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Qaiyyum has ruled out any international link with the banned Islamist outfit Jam'atul Mujahedin Bangladesh (JMB).
"JMB has no link with any outlawed and militant parties as their ideologies and views are not similar," said the IGP while talking to Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) leaders, who met him on a courtesy call at his office in the city Friday.
"The international militants have minimum public support, but the JMB has no such support," commented IGP.
During the call on, the police chief replied to various questions on the existing law and order situation of the country, JMB's activities and successes of the law enforcers.
Replying to a question, the IGP said, "We did not find any JMB connection with the August 21 grenade attacks at Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina's rally."
"If top terror Subrata Bain and other absconding accused are arrested, we could confirm who were the masterminds in the grenade attacks and whether there are any JMB link or not," said the IGP.
Qaiyyum said the RAB and police personnel who were involved in the drives to arrest JMB chief Shaekh Abdur Rahman, its second in command Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai and other JMB cadres, would be awarded soon.
