Tax evasion by hotels, eateries rampant in Brahmanbaria
Our Correspondent

BRAHMANBARIA Mar 11: Tax evasion by the residential hotels and restaurants in the district is rampant.
A large numbers of hotel and restaurant owners have been evading taxes for long violating government rule, sources said.
According to government rule, a restaurant with at least 30 seats and a hotel with over 10 beds must have to obtain government licence for operating business.
A hotel or a restaurant will be fined Tk 100 everyday in case of violation of the government rule. People from outside the district now visit upazila headquarters of Sarail, Nasirnagar, Banchharampur, Kasba, Nabinagar, Akhaura, Ashuganj and district town everyday for their business purposes.
Again dozens of rural markets in the district also draw a large number of traders and visitors from far-flung areas.
As a result, many hotels and restaurants have sprung up at the district town and the upazila headquarters in rural areas.
