19.43pc die of waterborne diseases in CHT
3/24/2006

RANGAMATI, Mar 23 (UNB): Waterborne diseases like diarrhoea, jaundice and typhoid have killed some 19.43 per cent of people who have died in three districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in last five years.
It was disclosed at a discussion jointly organised by Green Hill -- a non-government organisation (NGO) and upazila administration at the Zila Parishad conference room Wednesday on the occasion of World Water Day.
Zila Parishad Chairman Manik Lal Dewan attended the discussion as the chief guest with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of the Sadar Upazila M Mohiuddin in the chair.
About 72 per cent people of Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari districts are not getting contamination free water, the discussants revealed.
Earlier, a large number of people brought out a colourful procession, which paraded the main roads of the town.
