Industry Minister Matiur Rahman Nizami called upon the owners of the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) Wednesday to be more organised to play an active role for rapid industrialisation of the country, reports BSS. The Industry Minister was speaking at a seminar on "Access to Finance for Small and Medium Enterprises" at the media centre of the Bangladesh- China Friendship Conference Centre here. The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) organised the seminar with the support of the National Association for Small and Cottage Industries of Bangladesh (NASCIB). State Minister for Planning Anwarul Kabir Talukder and Chairman of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) M Sikandar Ali Mandal addressed the seminar with FBCCI first vice-president Kamal Uddin Ahmed in the chair. Khondaker Siddique-e-Rabbani of Dhaka University presented a keynote paper. Nizami said a manufacturer-friendly environment should be created in the country for attracting more entrepreneurs. At present, the situation is traders friendly, he pointed out. He said a huge domestic market of 140 million consumers is open for the local enterprises. The market can be easily exploited by providing quality products with a competitive price. Terming the SMEs as the engines of economic growth, Anwarul Kabir Talukdar said industrialisation is necessary for the alleviation of poverty. Application of collective wisdom is a must to achieve a success in the SMEs, he added.
