RANGPUR, Sept 11: The failure of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) to pay the outstanding bills of its contract growers amounting to about Tk 10 million (one crore) has caused them great setback in producing Aman seeds this year, sources said. BADC procured 600 tonnes of paddy seeds from their contract growers in the five northern districts during the last IRRI-Boro season. But the organisation so far has paid the bills for only 100 tonnes of seeds, the sources added. However, BADC Deputy Director Adhik Bij said that the remaining bills would be paid only after Ministry of Agriculture received its sanction of fund in future. Meanwhile, the contract growers of the region, who are the victims, told FE that for several months BADC officials had been assuring them of payment of their bills, but nothing has been done as yet.
