SHERPUR, Oct 18: A court here sentenced Monday a man and his mother to life imprisonment for killing his wife due to dowry demand. The Additional District and Sessions Judge Court also fined the convict persons, Abul Kalam and his mother Salemon Bibi, Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in jail. According to the prosecution, Kalam of Gachhdhara village in Nalitabari upazila used to torture his wife Anwara Khatun demanding dowry. — UNB
DPHE's sanitation programme
CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Oct 18: Government implemented various programmes in the district at a cost of Tk 26.7 million (2.67 crore) in the last four years to ensure sanitation facilities and supply of pure drinking water for all. The Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) installed 1,038 tubewells and distributed about 25,000 sets of latrines under the programme. The DPHE also constructed three-kilometre line for water supply and one pump house and implemented five other water supply schemes in Sadar thana and pourashava area. — UNB
