Harassment at ticket counters
10/26/2005

HARASSMENT of the homebound passengers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr is now a common experience. Every year, it intensifies with the increase of the city population and the government's apathy to put a stop to it. And this harassment of the passengers starts from ticketing and it continues in the case of other services, too.
Although the government announces special arrangements every year to issue advanced tickets with the mouthful words like "facilitating the passengers", it, however, does not work. It is the best time for the people involved in the transport sector to earn extra money by taking advantage of the pressure of passengers. The more people will come to the city the more they can earn on this occasion. It is a proven fact that the government also supports them. Otherwise, there might be an increase in the number of vehicles including vessels to accommodate the increasing pressure of passengers.
But how long should this continue? It would continue until the government takes step to stop migration, decentralise the administration or start development activities and find innovative ways to introduce easy ticketing system.
