LETTER TO EDITOR

World heritage
10/26/2005

UNESCO did select 730 sites as world heritage throughout the world while three sites were identified in this list from Bangladesh. These sites are-historic mosque city of Bagerhat, ruins of Buddhist 'Bihar' of Paharpur and the Sundarbans.
The heritage lists comprise cultural and natural properties of universal value and the pledge is to save the irreplaceable properties comprising mosques, fortresses, cathedrals, castles, churches, castles, churches, mausoleums, temples, resorts, monuments, cemetery, villages, cities monastery etc.
These were selected through independent evaluation of nomination sent by member countries. There may be more sites in world heritage list in Bangladesh since I did visit some world heritage lists in USA, Germany, India, Egypt and Switzerland where world heritage listed-places are comparable to some of our sites like Kantaji mandir, Dinajpur, Lalbag Fort (killah), various mosques, Narayanganj fort etc. Let the concerned ministry do something to project our past and ancient glories before the world.
