Communications Minister Nazmul Huda said Thursday that the government is planning to award licences to 50,000 more rickshaws in Dhaka city. "Only 89,000 rickshaws have licenses and more than 400,000 rickshaws are plying in the capital without licence. These occupy most of the road spaces of the capital. Rickshaws will have to operate in a disciplined way to remove traffic jam in Dhaka city," he said. He was speaking at a seminar on "Rickshaw Ban in Dhaka City: An Overview of Arguments For and Against," organised by Civil Engineering Division at Bangladesh Engineers' Institution. — UNB
