BCL invigorated with talk of its council in the air
12/25/2005

Enthusiasm stirred the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) into fresh activity as the much-awaited next council of the BCL is likely to be held on January last, reports UNB.
Aspirants for the vital posts are now supplicating to the high-ups of the opposition Awami League to ensure their selection.
According to the sources, the date for new council will be announced from the rally of AL's 58th founding anniversary on January 4. And the council may be held in the last week of January.
The BCL leaders and activists have been seen in a refreshed mood ahead of the probable council, as they expect that new leadership will "intensify activities against anti-liberation and communal forces" on the campuses across the country.
When contacted, BCL President Liakat Shikder termed the allegations baseless, saying that they are waiting for necessary direction from Awami League high-ups.
Sources said six BCL leaders are now under party's consideration to be put in the post of President. They are present vice-presidents Rafiqul Islam Katuwal, Marufa Akhter Popy, Saifuzzaman Shekhor, Asharful Azim and Shahjada Mohiuddin.
