12/25/2005

CHITTAGONG, Dec 24 (UNB): Armed robbers looted Tk 6.7 million in cash from British-American Tobacco (BAT) company's Chittagong regional office at Dampara in the port city early Saturday.
The robbers took away the cash along with bank cheques of Tk 1.3 million and vouchers of Tk 0.3 million from the office, according to a case filed with Khulsi thana by the company's Chittagong regional manager, Macro Khan.
According to the case, two robbers forced two on-duty Ansar personnel to open the collapsible gate at gunpoint at about 3:30 am and entered the main office at 3rd floor of the four-storeyed building by breaking another gate.
Police arrested five persons - three Ansars and two private security guards -- after Khan filed the case in the afternoon.
Police suspected that the Ansars might be involved with the robbery.
