12/26/2005

The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) has finally found the sponsor for the ongoing Premier Division Cricket League in the midway as country's one of the largest cellular mobile operators AKTEL has come forward to sponsor the league.
Managing Director of AKTEL Ahmed Ismail Sunday told the press Sunday that they had come forward to sponsor the premier cricket league in a bid to be a partner of the development of country's local cricket.
He expressed his happiness for being involved with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
BCB General Secretary Mahbub Anam, CCDM and Development Committee Chairman Khandoker Jamiluddin, AKTEL Head of Marketing Department Asif Iqbal and its Head of Corporate Affairs Javed Tariq also spoke on the occasion.
Asif Iqbal said that they would continue their association with the BCB in the years to come.
He informed that they would provide about Tk 4.0 million - Tk 2.2 to 2.5 million for the infrastructure development at six venues hosting the ongoing league's matches and 1.8 million for the premier league sponsorship, which have already completed its fifth round matches.
Mahbub Anam said some matches of the premier league would be telecast live or to be shown highlights though the TV channel. Though they have yet to sign any agreement, but they had fruitful discussions with TV channels, said Mahbub without details.
Asked it was a failure of BCB marketing committee to manage a sponsor for the premier league, Mahbub said, "The BCB is a family and we work together, so any achievement or failure goes to the BCB executive committee."
Meanwhile, BCB marketing committee informed to the CCDM four days before the start of the country's most prestigious league that they were not able to rope a sponsor for the premier league.
