Anti-corruption day today
12/9/2005

The International Anti-Corruption Day will be observed in the country as elsewhere in the globe today (Friday), reports BDNEWS.
"The law minister and the foreign minister will have to reply to the nation why Bangladesh did not sign the convention," Professor Muzaffer Ahmad, a member of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) board of trustees told the news agency.
He said Law Minister Barrister Moudud Ahmed at a seminar marking the day last year had said that he would look into why Bangladesh did not sign the convention and take steps for the signing.
"Since then we don't know what the government did in this regard. This kind of thing happens if there is dishonesty in the government," he maintained.
Law Minister Moudud Ahmed said Bangladesh has already enacted a law and formed anti-corruption commission. "So there is no problem in signing the UN convention."
"The matter is now pending with Foreign Ministry and I have requested the minister for the second time to take initiative," he said.
