Gainers beat losers

          The price indices on the Chit-tagong Stock Exchange (CSE) gained grounds Thursday, as the gainers defeated the losers.
The trade turnover, in terms of both volume and value, however, decreased on the day.
The CSE All Share Price Index moved down by 0.37 per cent to close at 3377.37 points from 3365.02 points of Wednesday, the previous trading day.
The CSE-30 Index dropped by 0.62 per cent to close at 3226.87 points from 3207.06 points.
A total of 1.14 million shares and debentures worth Tk 47.998 million changed hands on the day against the previous day's 1.30 million shares and debentures valued at Tk 55.75 million of the previous day.
The total market capitalisation stood at Tk 203.80 billion from Tk 203.18 billion.
The total number of contracts decreased to 2,479 from 2,854 of previous trading day.
A total of 77 issues were traded on the day. Of them, 35 gained, 32 declined and ten remained unchanged.
Legacy Footwear was the top gaining issue on the day. Its price rose by 19.67 per cent to close at Tk 7.30 from Tk 6.10. Its 219,500 shares valued at Tk 1.50 million were traded on the day.
Janata Insurance was the top losing issue on the day. Its price fell by 12.00 per cent to end at Tk 220.00 from Tk 250.00. Some 20 of its shares worth Tk 4,400.00 changed hands on the day.
Beximco Pharma was the top trade turnover leader, in terms of value, on the day. Its 70,000 shares valued at Tk 6.65 million were traded. The price of the issue went up by 0.21 per cent to close at Tk 93.80 from Tk 93.60.
Padma Textiles was a significant performer on the day. Its 137,300 shares valued at Tk 5.32 million changed hands. The price of the issue slipped by 1.29 per cent to close at Tk 38.40 from Tk 38.90.
