The 16-garment factory workers' organisation observed a token hunger strike in different parts of the country Friday protesting the loss of lives of garment workers in fire and building collapse, reports BDNEWS. The token hunger strike programme was observed at Muktangon in city, Chittagong, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Savar from 11 am to 4 pm protesting the deaths of about 400 workers in fire and collapse of garment factory buildings from 1990 to 2006. Eminent intellectuals and politicians of the country also expressed solidarity with the programme. The token hunger strike programme at capital's Muktangon was addressed, among others, by Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Communist Party of Bangladesh General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim, labour leader Sahidullah Chowdhury and SKOP coordinator Wajedul Islam Khan.
