The government has purchased two helicopters from Russia at a cost of US$ 3.0 million for use by "very very important persons (VVIPs)," sources said. Bangladesh's President and Prime Minister generally use military choppers. A Russian cargo aircraft Antonov 124 has brought the helicopters in knocked-down state in boxes, which are now being assembled. The choppers have 10 seats each and are named as MI-8 MTV. The government decision to purchase such choppers was necessitated after some protocol officials of a neighbouring country objected to using military aircraft for its head of government during the SAARC summit in Dhaka held last November.
