BSF ordered to shoot on sight on any intruder
India imposes red alert, evening curfew along Satkhira border
8/10/2006

SATKHIRA, Aug 9 (BDNEWS): Red alert and evening curfew have been imposed in the Indian territories bordering Satkhira.
Sources from the Bhomra Land Port area under the district said the Indian authorities have ordered the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to shoot on sight on any illegal intruder.
The Indian authorities have taken the measures ahead of their Independence Day scheduled on August 15 to ensure security and safety on the occasion, sources said.
The Indian government used to enforce such type of security cordon ahead of their Independence Day earlier too, the sources added.
When contacted, members of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) confirmed the fact and said it is up to the Indian authorities.
Apart from imposing red alert and evening curfew, the BSF members have also intensified their vigil from the border watchtowers, sources said.
Besides, the BSF have also activated their searchlights in the evening and are keeping watch on the activities in the border villages, local hats and bazars, sources added.
Moreover, the BSF also deployed additional patrols on land and waters at several points of the border area, sources further said.
Tense situation has been prevailing in the area following the new development.
