The deposits with Bangladesh Bank (BB) amounted to about Tk 123.81 billion (12,381 crore) as on February 23, 2006, from over Tk 117.47 billion on February 2, this year, registering a rise of about Tk 6.34 billion, reports BSS. Of the total deposits as on February 23, over Tk 82.77 billion was banks deposits, Tk 7.4 million government deposits and over Tk 41.03 billion other deposits, while it was about Tk 83.90 billion bank deposits, Tk 6.1 million government deposits and over Tk 33.57 billion other deposits as on February 2. Total assets of the central bank as on February 23 stood at over Tk 308.69 billion against over Tk 291.19 billion three week ago, marking a rise by about Tk 17.5 billion or 6.01 per cent, according to Bangladesh Bank data. Total liquid assets of the scheduled banks stood higher at over Tk 318.68 billion at the end of December, 2005 compared to about Tk 305.71 billion at the end of June, 2005. However, excess liquidity of the scheduled banks stood markedly lower at about Tk 77.7 billion at the end of December, 2005 compared to about Tk 109.42 billion at the end of June, 2005. Balances of the central bank held outside the country as on the date under review totalled to over Tk 111.51 billion, from over Tk 95.82 billion as on February 2, indicating a rise by about Tk 15.69 billion or 16.37 per cent. Investments in the country as on the said date amounted to about Tk 84.39 billion, from Tk 82.69 billion, showing a rise by about Tk 1.7 billion or 2.05 per cent. Total loans and advances as on February 23 this year amounted to about Tk 28.44 billion. Notes in circulation as on February 23 this year valued at about Tk 232.32 billion with notes held in the banking department valuing Tk 9.2 million, totalling to total notes issued at the said date worth about Tk 232.33 billion. Notes in circulation, three week ago, however, was Tk 233.97 billion with notes held in the banking department worth Tk 9.1 million, totalled notes issued valued at about Tk 233.98 billion.
