Call to check upward trend of US dollar against taka
Our Correspondent
3/13/2006

CHITTAGONG, Mar 11: Making a plea to take immediate steps to prevent the upward trend of the US dollar against the Bangladeshi taka, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Saifuzzaman Chowdhury sent a fax message to Bangladesh Bank Governor Salehuddin Ahmed recently.
The CCCI president, in his message, said the constant rise in rate of the US dollar against the Bangladeshi taka has created unrest in the country's money market. Such an abnormal rise in dollar price has badly affected the trade and commerce of the country.
As a result, it is not only leading to the abnormal price hike of the import-based essential items but also casting a negative impact on overall socio-economic environment of the country, he added.
The Chamber president feared that the high rate of the US dollar would increase the prices of capital machinery affecting the healthy pace of industrialisation on the one hand and undermine the prevailing favourable investment-friendly environment in the country on the other.
