Hike in dollar value raises prices of computer Accessories
3/18/2006

The prices of different accessories used in computer have increased by around 10 per cent due to dollar value increase against Bangladesh taka.
Prices of computer hardwares and different accessories increased over the last three to four months when the taka value started declining against dollar value, sources in the market said.
Computer is a set of electronic devices including hardware-any touchable part of computer; and software means programme through which computer operates its activities.
The main accessories used as hardware in computer are monitor, CPU (Central Processing Unit) containing mother board, bus, circuit and mouse and keyboard.
Due to dollar price hike against taka value the retail price of 17-inch colour monitor produced by Samsung has increased to Tk 8400 which was Tk 8000 three months ago.
Philips markets two models of monitor. One model is being sold at Tk 7700 and another model is sold at Tk 8400. Their prices were almost same three to four months ago.
The 17-inch colour monitor produced by Mercury company is being sold at Tk 7000 in the country's retail market. The price was about Tk 6800 two months ago.
The price of CPU used for standard PC (Personal Computer) was between Tk 1200 and Tk 2300, which was minimum 10 per cent to 12 per cent lower three months ago.
CPU used in server computer is more expensive and its price ranges from Tk 3500 to Tk 4000, which was also 10 per cent lower.
The motherboard used in Pentium 4 computer is now traded at Tk 4400, which was about Tk 4000 four months ago.
Mouse prices have also increased and are now selling between Tk 100 and Tk 1700 each mouse, and keyboard price is ranging from Tk 200 to Tk 2200 showing a ten to twelve per cent rise.
RAM (Random Access Memory) price has increased over the period and currently ranges from Tk 1000 for 128 megabyte to Tk 1800 for 256 megabyte, which were Tk 900 and Tk 1500 respectively two or three months ago.
The price of ROM (Read only Memory) is now around Tk 1000, which was more or less the same previously.
Pen drive of 128 megabyte is being sold at Tk 1150 and 256 megabyte is at Tk 1750, which were earlier Tk 1050 and Tk 1500 respectively.
"Computer accessories became less expensive by minimum thirty to forty per cent but the recent price hike of dollar increased their price again. Prices of electronic items are declining due to aggressive competition among different companies and use of non-durable ingredients by companies," said a retail trader.
