The government has further extended the time for the internal Aman procurement drive to beef up its foodgrain stock. With the extension, the procurement of Aman will continue until March 30, food ministry officials said. The authority earlier extended the time from February 26 to March 15, 2006 against the backdrop of poor procurement performance. Much earlier, it set the target of procuring 200,000 tonnes of Aman rice. The food ministry has so far collected some 81,100 tonnes of rice from internal sources. Besides, the authority has also made agreements on purchasing about 85,000 tonnes from rice dealers. With the procured amount, the government's total foodgrain stock has crossed 650,000 tonnes - nearly 450,000 tonnes of rice and 200,000 tonnes of wheat. — FE Report
