Sheltech to build 1,000 apartments in the capital
Refayet Ullah Mirdha
4/7/2005

Sheltech, a housing and real estate company, is planning to invest huge money this year for constructing 1,000 apartments in the city to meet the growing demand for housing, company sources said.
"The company would build 1,000 apartments by December this year for the city dwellers, especially the people of middle class," said a company official while talking to the FE.
Sheltech has already started a "fixed price policy" giving quality services to the customers as the company cares for quality and earn name in the housing and real estate business in the country, the official said adding that the company has recently gained the ISO certificate for its reputation.
Currently, the company has been implementing 30 different projects consisting of more than 5,000 apartments in the city, he said.
Sheltech builds the apartments under joint venture initiatives and it never buys lands from the land owners directly, but makes them partners of the projects, the company officials said.
The apartments built by the Sheltech have been selling between Tk 1.3 and 5.0 million each including the parking and lift facilities depending on the location of the projects, the company sources said.
The total market share of the Sheltech in the country's housing sector is between five to six per cent and it is eying 10 per cent by 2010, the official said.
The company started its journey in 1988 and since 1995 it has been showing a steady growth.
Normally it takes 18 to 24 months to hand over apartments to the customers and they can easily pay the total amount in installment, the company official said.
The company has started Sheltech Awards for the renowned personalities in their respective fields in 1998, the official said adding that as a company it is also performing some social responsibilities.
He urged the government to ease the land registration process and to give soft loans to the middle class people to buy houses.
The government should give flats to the government officials and employees instead of giving house rent and deduct the cost from their salaries, which has been practicing in some neighbouring countries, he said.
At present, the company is run by a board of directors including chairman of the company Tapan Chowdhury, managing director and REHAB president Toufiq M Seraj, director Kutubuddin Ahmed and director Samuel S Chowdhury.
