Water Resources Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Wednesday urged the country's energy experts to explore oil and gas in the Bay of Bengal using their own merits and local resources, reports UNB. "Engineers of water and power sectors have long been playing a vital role in their respective sectors, especially in agriculture," he said while inaugurating the 37th annual conference of Bangladesh Water and Power Engineers Society in the city. About river erosion, the minister said this has been an acute problem for Bangladesh and there is a lack of resources in the country to tackle it buying equipment and technology from abroad. "So our engineers will have to innovate a new technology to effectively tackle it." State Minister for Power Iqbal Hasan Mahmud and State Minister for Water Resources Goutam Chakra-barty were also present as special guests at the conference, held at Bangladesh Engineer-ing Institution.
