Bomb blast kills one, attack on house misses target
12/25/2005

MEHERPUR, Dec 24 (UNB): An alleged terrorist who was carrying bomb with him was killed as it suddenly went off in Chuadanga while a bomb attack on a house missed the target in neighbouring Meherpur district Friday night.
Ohidul Islam alias Choto Mia (38) died instantly when a bomb, strapped with his body, exploded with big bang at Sharishadanga village in Sadar upazila of frontier district Chuadanga Friday night.
Sadar thana Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam Mollah visited the spot. The OC said Choto Mia, an inhabitant of the village, was riding bicycle at about 9:30pm when the bomb, being carried by him, blasted following jerking of the two- wheeler.
Police said Choto Mia was a "terrorist." They arrested three people-- Khoaz, Jahangir and Amirul--in connection with the incident. A case was filed in this connection.
In Meherpur, another southwestern frontier district, miscreants launched a bomb attack on a house at Kola village in Sadar upazila late Friday night.
Villagers said 10 to 12 outlaws raided the house of one Liakot and hurled three powerful bombs at the house.
However, none was hurt in the attack. "But the explosions caused massive damage to the house," district correspondent of the news agency quoted witnesses as saying.
Later, the attackers kidnapped two cattle traders from a nearby rented house and tied them down to a tree and took away Tk 20,000 in cash and two cell-phone sets from them.
The two cattle traders--Faruk and Malek--hailed from Comilla and Chandpur, came to Meherpur to buy cattle from local markets and were staying at a rented house.
When contacted Saturday morning, local police officials expressed their ignorance about the attack.
