The bowlers dominated the first day of the 4-day match between Dhaka and Khulna in the 6th National Cricket League, as replying to Khulna's 153 Dhaka were 66 for 4 at stumps at the Fatullah Cricket Stadium in Narayanganj Thursday, reports UNB. Sent into bat first, Khulna Division were dismissed for 153 runs in 58.2 overs with eight-down batsman Dollar Mahmud being the top scorer with 35 runs. Among others,Nazmus Sadat, who scored 22, also offered some resistance against the fierce bowling of Dhaka bowlers while Jamil Uddin and Mashrafee Mortaza contributed 17 runs each. Captain Khaled Mahmud, who opened the bowling, was the most effective bowler for Dhaka Division capturing three wickets for 17 runs in 9.2 overs that included 5 maidens. Mehrab hossain Jr. and Mahbubul Alam took two wickets apiece while Niaz Morshed and Arafat Sunny took one wicket each. Dhaka's joy of restricting the visitors to a poor total was short-lived when Khulna bowlers returned the compliments reducing the hosts to 33 for 4 in just 14.3 overs. But an unbroken 33-run stand between Sajjad Kadir and Halim Shah in the fifth wicket provided Dhaka some sort of stability. Sajjad and Halim were at the crease with 25 and 6 runs respectively when bails were drawn for the day. Monjurul Islam, who is captaining Khulna in absence of their regular skipper Habibul Bashar, and Dollar Mahmud equally shared the wickets between them conceding 15 runs each.
