IBBL disburses Tk 6.03b loan among rural poor

          Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited (IBBL), under its rural development scheme, disbursed Tk 6.03 billion (603.33 crore) as loan among rural poor since December 31, 2005.
The amount is 43 per cent higher than that of the previous year. The amount was Tk 4.22 billion as on corresponding period of the previous year, according to a press release.
Under the scheme, the number of clients now stood at 1,64,116 and number of group members stood at 2,17,443.
The recovery rate of loan under the scheme is 99 per cent. A total of 4,421 tube-wells and 2,204 sanitary latrines were also distributed on 'profit free' basis among the members, the release added.
The scheme was introduced in 1995 to expedite the socio-economic development of downtrodden rural people aiming to establish a balanced rural economy and to alleviate poverty.
The programme is being carried out in 4,S60 villages through 101 branches of the bank, the release further added.
