The Power Development Board (PDB) Thursday signed two agreements with the BON Consortium, a joint venture (JV) company, to set up the country's largest 450mw Meghnaghat Combined Cycle Power Plant (Phase-2). The BON Consortium, a JV of Belhasa International LLC of Dubai, Orion Power Company Limited of Dhaka and STEAG AG of Germany, will install the plant on Build, Own, Operate (BOO) basis, offering the lowest ever tariff of 2.7865 US cents per unit. Secretary of the PDB Board Talebur Rahman and Managing Director of BON Consortium Power Company Limited Obaidul Karim signed the accords - Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Land Lease Agreement - on behalf of their respective sides. Official sources said the government would purchase electricity from the Meghnaghat phase-2 project for a period of 22 years. BON Consortium will set up the plant at Meghnaghat within 37 months at a cost of about US$ 300 (equivalent to about Tk 18.0 billion). —UNB
