No one will be spared, says Babar
New dimension in militancy affairs
3/10/2006

State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar Thursday said the government wouldn't hesitate to take action even against Ministers or MPs if they are really found to having links with militancy, reports UNB
"Whoever is involved, no matter who, action would be taken. No one will be spared," he said when a correspondent sought his comment about reports that names of a few ministers and MPs were mentioned by JMB chief Shaekh Abdur Rahman during interrogation.
The state minister was talking to journalists at a local hotel after the launch of an extended phase of the project 'Enhancing Capacity of Immigration Officials to Combat Irregular Immigration in Bangladesh'.
Asked about the arrest of militants still at large, including Khamaru and Salauddin, Babar indicated a new dimension of the militancy affairs as he said: "We have to go deep into the whole thing…it will require a long time. It may be seen that there are people behind the militancy who escaped our notice earlier."
"We are not complacent…the remaining (militants) will be captured," he said.
Asked about the bomb-making materials smuggled in from across the border, Babar said, "We have certain information and we are taking necessary steps. It is our country, it is our responsibility."
To another question, he said action would be taken against the banks and NGOs that would be found involved (in shady deals).
Asked about the condition of Bangla Bhai, injured during the operation for his capture, he replied, "Mashallah, he is improving. He has come to a stage when he can face interrogation."
When his attention was drawn to the fact that terrorists take advantage of loose border control, Babar termed it a global problem and said: "We have taken several steps, some of which are quite significant."
He said the government has requested "some new equipment…upon receipt of these equipment things will be better."
