Starts operations from June
Warid Telecom to invest $300m
FE Report
3/13/2006

Warid Telecom International, a subsidiary of Dhabi Group of the United Arab Emirates, will invest US$300 million before starting its mobile phone operations in Bangladesh from June next.
A visiting high official of the group Parvez Shahid expressed such interest during his meeting with Board of Investment Executive Chairman and Energy Adviser Mahmudur Rahman Sunday.
Warid obtained an operating licence last December as the country's fifth private cell phone operator at a cost of US $ 50 million.
Apart from the licence acquisition fee worth $50 million, Warid has also deposited Tk 200 million as performance bank guarantee fee for obtaining the licence for an initial period of 15 years.
As per licensing agreement, it is supposed to start operation within nine months.
Warid will charge Tk 4.0 per minute during peak hours according to its roll-out plan. It has also set a target to reach around six million subscribers in three years after starting the operation.
Meanwhile, International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICC-B) Mahbubur Rahman hosted a luncheon at a city hotel in honour of the Warid Telecom delegation Sunday.
