Ducking police hunt for a fortnight, the Phoenix group chairman on Sunday surrendered to the High Court (HC) to seek ad interim anticipatory bail in a criminal case following its building collapse at Tejgaon on February 25 that left 22 workers dead and over 50 maimed, reports UNB. After hearing both sides, a Division Bench comprising Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha and Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury disposed of the application directing accused Deen Mohammad to surrender to the lower court within two weeks with a prayer for bail. The HC also passed an order upon the lower court to consider his bail petition subject to its 'satisfaction' with regard to compensation committed by the accused for the family of the building-collapse victims. Soon after the order Deen Mohammad was whisked away from the court in a luxury BMW car, witnesses said. Sub-inspector (SI) Khalilur Rahman filed a case with Tejgaon police station against Deen Mohammad and seven other Phoenix group officials for offences causing deaths by negligence.
