Australian firm keen to invest in energy sector
FE Report
3/13/2006

An Australian oil and gas exploration and production company - Santos - has expressed its interest to invest in the country's energy sector especially in gas exploration.
Sources said a four-member delegation of Santos International Sunday met with Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) Adviser Mahmudur Rahman and discussed about their potential investment plan.
EMRD sources said the company has shown interest to invest in the gas exploration in offshore gas fields in the Bay of Bengal.
It has also shown interest to get involved in the country's energy sector even purchasing any stakes from international oil companies (IOCs) if any such company sells their stakes in any gas block, a senior EMRD official said.
Sources said, Santos is a major Australian oil and gas exploration and production company with interests and operations in every major Australian petroleum province and in the United States, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Kyrgyzstan and Egypt.
Santos is one of Australia's largest gas producers, supplying sales gas to all mainland Australian states and territories, ethane to Sydney, and oil and liquids to domestic and international customers.
In Australia, Santos has one of the largest exploration portfolios by area of any company and has assembled a large, well-defined position in Indonesia and the United States.
The company is also pursuing new venture opportunities in North Africa, the Middle East, Central and South East Asia.
Santos is positioning itself to perform alongside the top quartile of the world's oil and gas companies - rapidly expanding its exploration interests, delivering an exciting suite of growth projects and continuing to pay a strong dividend.
At year end 2005, Santos had a market capitalisation of approximately $7.5 billion, making it one of Australia's Top 50 companies.
