Bandits loot cash, valuables from bus passengers
10/18/2005

Armed robbers looted cash and valuables worth Tk 0.163 million (1.63 lakh) from the passengers of a Pirojpur-bound bus at Dholaipar in city's Shyampur area Monday morning, reports UNB.
The bandits, in the guise of passengers, got into the bus from near Kafiluddin Filling Station at 9:20am and started snatching cash and valuables, including gold ornaments and mobile phone sets, from the passengers at gunpoint, the police said.
After completing their mission, the robbers got down from the bus and fled safely with the booty.
Meanwhile, passengers caught the driver and the supervisor of the bus, informed a police patrol team and handed them over to the law enforcers suspecting their involvement with the gangsters.
The police quoting the passengers said the robbers got into the bus after it left the Sayedabad Bus Terminal for Bhandaria when driver Mizanur Rahman stopped the bus near the filling station and supervisor Md Aslam opened the door despite their protests.
Neither the driver nor the supervisor could not give any satisfactory answer to the passengers' questions as to why they had stopped the bus at that place, as it was not a regular stoppage, the police added.
A case has been filed with police.
