GM food not 'harmful for health'
FE Report
10/26/2005

Genetically modified food (GM food) is not harmful for health. Those who are telling so they do not have any scientific evidence to prove that it is harmful or unhygienic, biotech scientists claimed.
They said biotech crops i.e. golden rice helps to prevent diabetic disease supplying insulin to human body.
Enriched with vitamin -A this nutritious food also helps prevent blindness, experts said.
Speakers said that our lands are limited but population is increasing day by day at an alarming rate.
To keep pace with the population growth the food production needs to be doubled by the year 2020.
It was declared by global leaders to bring down by 2015 the number of poor to half of what already exits. It's a big challenge for global community as it is not possible to meet the huge demand of food by traditional method of food production.
Traditional kind of rice cannot fulfil this huge demand and only the technology of hybrid production that has been developed can meet this demand, experts opined.
Biotechnology, i.e., GM food production technology, should be applied for that purpose.
