Dhaka Int’l Trade Fair kicks off on Dec 10
12/7/2005

With only three days left for inauguration of the twice-deferred 11th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) by the Prime Minister, organisers are on war footing to complete the preparatory works, reports UNB.
Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will formally inaugurate the fair, organised by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), at Ser-e-Bangla Nagar in the city on December 10.
Business houses from Austria, China, India, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, the UK and host Bangladesh will take part in the fair.
"Nearly 70 per cent preparatory works have so far been completed while the rest will be finished before its inauguration," said a commerce ministry official.
Commerce Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury visited the fair venue Tuesday to see for himself the progress of the preparatory works. During his visit, the minister directed the organisers to complete all the works before the fair is kicked off.
Earlier, the fair was deferred twice to facilitate holding of the 13th SAARC summit in the city.
EPB sources said the fair would be participated for the first time by the delegations of different foreign chambers and business rings.
Myanmar Chamber of Commerce, Younan Chamber of Commerce of China, Hyderabad Chamber and Karachi Chamber have already confirmed their participation in the DITF.
Besides, two business delegations from Myanmar and Malaysia will visit the exhibition. The organisers have also requested the authorities of 49 Bangladesh missions abroad to send business delegations from their respective countries.
India, Pakistan, Iran and Thailand will have special pavilions, each comprising a number of stalls, at the fair ground to showcase their products.
