A total of 102 dealers and five food department officers have been suspended temporarily for their alleged involvement with irregularities in open market sales (OMS) programme, the inter-ministerial committee on food planning and monitoring was informed Wednesday, reports BSS. Food and Disaster Management Minister Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf presided over the meeting held in the conference room of the ministry to review the country's food situation. LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Agriculture Minister M. K. Anwar and Deputy Minister for Food and Disaster Management Asadul Habib Dulu, among others, attended the meeting. Cabinet Secretary Dr Sadaat Hussain, Food and Disaster Management Secretary Muhammad Fazlur Rahman and senior officials were present. The government has so far sold 1,50,000 metric tons of rice through 12,900 dealers under the OMS programme, concerned officials informed the meeting. The officials said the meeting decided to continue the OMS till the farmers could harvest the next irri and boro crops. The government will start irri and boro procurement drive from April 25 if an inter-ministerial meeting can fix the price of rice (for procurement) on April 11.
