PM for security blanket for secretariat
10/19/2005

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has directed the authorities concerned to tighten security on priority basis for the Secretariat and important establishments across the country in view of the recent terror attacks.
The Prime Minister gave the directive at the ninth regular meeting of the secretaries, held in the Cabinet Division Conference Room in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
Khaleda Zia also directed the top-brass government officials to guard against corruption, misappropriation, food adulteration and selling of the same, and other malpractices as part of the drives for cleansing society of various sorts of misconduct.
Offices, courts as well as all establishments and buildings at national and local levels would come under the security blanket, the Prime Minister ordered.
Apart from the August 17 countrywide simultaneous bombings and October 3 court bombings by suspected militants in three districts, there have been reports of threats to blow up government establishments in some districts.
"In the perspective of various recent incidents, security has to be ensured, on priority basis, for the Secretariat and country's important establishments, such as offices, courts, field-level establishments and buildings. You have to take necessary steps through consultation with respective heads of department and office," the Prime Minister told the meeting.
The Prime Minister gave the directives to the top bureaucrats while setting the tone for government function in the terminal year, as she completed four years in office.
Mentioning the allocation of Tk 252.73 billion (25,273 crore) in development budget, the Prime Minister stressed the need for more attentiveness in project-implementation work from the first quarter of the current fiscal year for proper utilisation of the funds.
