A 12-day "Japan Festival" began at the National Museum in the city Tuesday. The programme marks the 24th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between Japan and Bangladesh, report agencies. Embassy of Japan and the Bangladesh National Museum have jointly organised the festival offering an inner look of the Japanese cultural heritage. Information Minister M Shamsul Islam opened the festival at a function addressed, among others, by Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Matsushiro Horiguchi and Director General of National Museum Mahmudul Haque. Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the festival represents important dimensions of the rich Japanese culture. He described the festival as a symbol of excellent relations between Dhaka and Tokyo. Shamsul Islam expressed the hope that the people of two countries would come closer to each other through the festival. Underscoring the need for such festival, the minister said the more we will have cultural exchanges, the greater will be our mutual understanding. He also praised the important role played by the Japanese investors for the development of Bangladesh's economy.
