SKOP withdraws today's strike
FE Report
4/6/2005

Sramik Karmachari Oikyo Parishad (SKOP) has withdrawn its today's (Wednesday) strike in industrial and transport sectors.
In a press release Tuesday night, SKOP said that it withdrew the strike considering the "overall situation" after passing the first day of strike.
It has planned to announce next course of action on April 18, the press release added.
SKOP enforced the two-day non-stop strike in the transport and industrial sectors from 6am Tuesday demanding immediate implementation of the agreement signed with it by the government.
The demands include fixation of minimum wage for workers, formulation of a democratic trade union law in line with the ILO convention, reopening of all closed mills and factories and stoppage of wholesale denationalisation of industrial units.
The first day of the two-day industrial and transport strike, enforced by SKOP, was partially observed across the country Tuesday.
Sources said most of the mills and factories particularly jute and textiles mills in Khulna in Chittagong, were closed. But different industrial units in the city's Tenjgaon and Tongi areas remained were open. Some garments factories in Tejgaon area remained closed.
