Land sharks out to grab govt land in Ctg
Our Correspondent

CHITTAGONG, April 5: Land sharks are out to grab government land located at Shitalpur coastal area under Sitakunda Upazila of the port city.
According to sources, an organisation namely M/s Crystal Shippers Ltd started constructing different establishments on the khas land at Sonaichhari along Shitalpur coastal area recently.
While the deputy commissioner (DC) of Chittagong was informed about the incident of unauthorised occupation of government khas land by local people, he asked the Sitakunda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) to probe the matter.
While visiting the site, the UNO witnessed the construction of two winch machine houses of the ship breaking yard and barbed fencing on the land by the Crystal Shippers Ltd.
Crystal Shippers Ltd was given 6.11 acres of land on lease for one year for establishing the ship breaking yard about seven years back.
But instead of building the desired ship yard, they occupied 3.70 acres of land illegally.
While the Chittagong DC was informed of the matter, he recommended the concerned authority for cancelling the lease and imposing penalty for occupying excess land.
