4/6/2005

NILPHAMARI, Apr 5 (BDNEWS): A postal operator, one of the three accused official and employees, is missing from Sunday as the incident of misappropriation of Tk 0.5 million (50 lakh) of the postal savings bank from the Nilphamari main post office was disclosed and investigation led by the additional director general started.
Sources concerned said the money had been misappropriated over the past several years showing fake vouchers of savings and several payments.
Involvement of assistant postmaster of the post office Mir Nurul Islam Munna, ledger operator Ahmedul Islam Razu and postal operator Taslim Uddin in the misappropriation was proven.
Postmaster Nabir Uddin said, accused postal operator Taslim Uddin had been missing since 3:30 pm Sunday without submitting any application for leave, while a five-member team led by additional DG Mofasserur Rahman began investigation into the matter.
The sources also said they would delve deep to identify if there are any incidence of fraudulence in the tenure of the alleged three.
One of the members of the investigating team deputy postmaster general Shafiqul Alam told the news agency the postmaster general ordered them to investigate on the basis of allegations made by the account holders.
Thousands of despaired account holders gathered at the post office Tuesday morning at the disclosure of the fraudulence.
